For more than four decades, Sparky Koerner’s Jazz Express has been one of the Galveston–Houston area’s most beloved musical groups. Whether they’re playing in a cozy restaurant, a lively club, a wedding reception, or a private celebration, Sparky and his band bring a joyful spirit and a deep musical sensitivity to every performance.
Their repertoire is as wide as the Gulf breeze—swing tunes that get your feet moving, ballads that melt the room, Latin/Bossa Nova grooves that set the mood, and a long list of favorites that fit any occasion. They know how to read a crowd, keep the volume just right, and create an atmosphere where conversation and music flow together naturally.
Since Sparky formed the group in 1980, the Jazz Express has become a trusted name for professional entertainment across the region. You’ll find them on Sundays at Marais Restaurant in Dickinson, and you may have heard them at places like the Galveston Historical Foundation, Texas Seaport Museum, Lone Star Flight Museum, Haak Vineyard & Winery, UTMB events, and even performing for NASA folks at the Chelsea Wine Bar. They’ve graced the Kemah Jazz Festival and spent a decade entertaining guests aboard the Colonel Paddlewheel Boat.
